BASED IN WEST VIRGINIA, MENTUS HAS SERVICED MINES THROUGH THE REGION FOR YEARS.

The borehole cable industry knows the name “Johnny Joe” Mentus after almost 30 years, so far, of breaking barriers and going beyond industry expectations. Having designed four trucks, each exceeding the capabilities of the previous design, Mentus has installed and removed more than 2,000 borehole cables in mines across the country. He’s accomplished these impressive numbers with zero accidents, zero incidents of cable failure and 100% success.

The industry knows and appreciates that Mentus is the kind of man to face obstacles head on and always with the distinct ability to think through and solve practical problems better than any of his competitors. In three decades and counting, he’s installed and removed borehole cable for R.C. Kadyk Cable Corp., Global Mine Service, A+C Equipment, J+R Repair and Xpress Cable, Consol Energy, Ohio Valley Coal, Peabody Energy, Alpha Natural Resources and Alliance Coal, just to name a few.

MAKE NO MISTAKE; NO ONE IN THIS INDUSTRY HAS MENTUS' EXPERTISE IN INSTALLING CABLE.

LISTEN, WE KNOW HOW TO DO IT RIGHT. ITS THAT SIMPLE.

Several companies have tried to copy Mentus’ designs, and some claim to have even fully developed them. Make no mistake; no one in this industry has Mentus’ expertise in installing cable, an expertise that comes from consistently and successfully working with more than 2,000 cables for more than 27 years.

SO HOW DID ALL OF THIS EXPERTISE HAPPEN?

1984

Mentus starts working in mine cable repair.

1988-89

The idea and development of the industry’s first borehole truck is born. Mentus designed and built this inaugural truck that changed borehole services forever.

1995

Mentus designs a second truck to manage bigger, heavier cable at deeper depths. He also develops the industry’s single-messenger system with this equipment.

2000

Mentus uses his technology and expertise to install lines at the Loveridge mine fire in Fairview, West Virginia.

2006

By this time, Mentus is widely regarded as the best in the business for his expertise dealing with heavier and longer cables up to 2,500 feet deep, slick lines, hydraulic lines, tracking cables, fiber and fail-safe systems. He designed his third truck at this time as well.

2013

Now, industry giants Consol and Jennchem have taken notice of Mentus’ capabilities and achievements. They call on him to respond to a second mine fire, this time at Blacksville No. 2. In Northern West Virginia. Mentus remains onsite for almost two months supporting rescue teams by lowering materials via airshafts.

2015

Mentus leaves long-time partnership to establish WLI Inc., then begins the design and build of his fourth, cutting-edge truck and is now capable of handling more than 5,000 feet of cable with more than 50,000 pounds of pulling capacity on each reel with a total maximum pulling and lowering capacity in excess of 100,000 pounds, and more than 200,000 pounds of braking capacity.
